We were hoping to travel to The Old HomePlace this evening to attend the fund raiser for Devon Wooten, (http://www.devonwooten.com) but Husband's neck/shoulder injury wouldn't allow it.
Never fear, Junior and Tall Man are on their way to represent the family and spend a rip-roaring weekend with Uncle. Hummmm, I hope they keep Uncle under control...
We had our Shabbat meal with the boys before they left, again stumbling through the blessings.
Here's what's on the menu:
Shabbat Dinner
vegan spaghetti
gluten free Penne Pasta w/ pesto
salad
fresh strawberries
Shabbat Breakfast
Rice Chex cereal (gluten-free)
vanilla rice mik
Shabbat Lunch
various wraps
(I have shredded chicken and some taco seasoned burger in the fridge for the children)
supper
left over spaghetti
or
baked potatoes
various toppings
This week's parasha is Shelach (send). It begins when Moses sent the two good spies and 10 bad spies into Cananan, the defiantly disobedient man who gathered sticks and was stoned, and ends with the commandment of wearing the tzit tzit (fringes) with a cord of blue as a sign to remember the commandments. The portion is Numbers 13:1-15:41
The Haftarah is Joshua 2:1-24 Which is when Joshua sent two good spies into Jericho and Rahab helped them. She put a cord (remember the tzit tzit?) of red in her window to be a sign to the Israelites to remember her kindness and save her household.
The New Testament portion is Hebrews 3:7-4:1 and reminds us of the defiant disobedience of thechildren of Israel in the desert and reminds us to remember (the cords) the commandments and fear God so we will not fall short of his rest and deliverance.
Shabbat Shalom!
